“That doesn’t exist.”
“I know.”
I looked down at Hazel.
“So he lied to his mistress about stealing from his wife.”
Sarah smiled slightly.
“Apparently.”
“What does she want?”
“Immunity from certain civil claims in exchange for information.”
“No.”
Caroline looked at me.
“Genevieve.”
“No.”
Sarah stayed calm.
“She may have evidence.”
“What evidence?”
“Messages.”
“From Julian?”
“Yes.”
“How many?”
“Hundreds.”
I looked at her.
Sarah continued.
“She says he discussed your pregnancy.”
My stomach tightened.
“What about it?”
“He complained that you planned to reduce his authority after maternity leave.”
“I never said that.”
“He apparently believed you might.”
“Why?”
“Because you hired a new CFO.”
I stared at her.
“That had nothing to do with Julian.”
“I know.”
“He thought I was replacing him?”
“Possibly.”
I leaned back.
“What else did he say?”
Sarah hesitated.
