My Husband Took Our Three Sons on a Fishing Trip, and None of Them Came Back – Six Years Later, My Oldest Daughter Found His Old Phone and Said, ‘Mom, I Know What Really Happened Back Then’

“Marcus.”

“Rebecca.”

His voice hardened.

“Do not call Dean.”

My blood went cold.

“You knew?”

“No.”

“But I never trusted parts of his statement.”

“What?”

“I’ll explain when I get there.”

He arrived thirty-five minutes later.

Older.

Gray hair.

Still sharp.

I showed him the video.

He watched without interrupting.

Then read the note.

Do not trust Dean.

His expression hardened.

“What did Dean say during the original investigation?”

I asked.

Marcus stared at me.

“You don’t remember?”

“I remember everything and nothing.”

He nodded.

“Dean said Daniel had been depressed.”

I froze.

“What?”

“He told us Daniel’s business was failing.”

“He suggested possible suicide.”

My mouth fell open.

“Nobody told me that.”

“We did not consider it credible enough to make public.”

“Why?”

“Because there was no evidence Daniel intended to harm the boys.”

I stared.

“Dean told police Daniel might have killed himself?”

“Yes.”
