There is something comforting about a busy kitchen, but small habits can sometimes create unnecessary safety risks. One common habit is hanging a tea towel over the oven door handle because it is convenient. However, towels should always be kept away from hot appliances, burners, flames, grease, and hot cookware.
An oven or stovetop can become extremely hot during normal cooking. A towel hanging against it may gradually heat up, while loose fabric can catch on clothing, cookware, or someone walking past. If that happens while carrying a hot pan, it could cause a dangerous spill or dropped dish.
