We Had Waited Ten Years for This Baby, but Just Minutes After She Was Born, My Husband Noticed the Little Heart on Her Forehead and Whispered, “THAT CAN’T BE…” When I Found Out Why He Was So Terrified—and What He Wanted to Do With Our Daughter—I Couldn’t Believe My Ears

“We need to get a doctor in here immediately.”

The fear in his voice terrified me.

“Michael, what do you know?”

He sat down beside my hospital bed.

“When I was six years old, I had a sister. Her name was Grace.”

I had never heard that name before.

“You told me you were an only child.”

Michael’s eyes filled with tears.

“Grace died when she was four.”

Then he searched through his phone, found an old photograph, and handed it to me.

There was a little girl in the picture.

And on her forehead…

was the exact same red, heart-shaped birthmark.

“She was diagnosed with a rare hereditary disease,” Michael whispered. “The doctors said that mark had been one of the first outward clues.”

I looked at our newborn daughter.

“That doesn’t mean Lily has the same illness.”

Michael shook his head.

“You don’t understand what I saw when I was a child.”

Then he said something I never expected to hear from him.

“Sarah… if they confirm that Lily has the same disease, we need to think about placing her in the care of another family.”

For a moment, I wasn’t even sure I had heard him correctly.

“What?”

He looked at me with tears running down his face.

“I can’t love her with my whole heart and then lose her too. I’ve already lived through that once.”

I took my baby into my arms and held her tightly against my chest.

“And I’m not giving her away just because we’re afraid of what might happen in the future.”

At that moment, the doctor walked into the room holding the results of Lily’s first tests.

His expression was serious.

“We did notice something,” he said.

Michael closed his eyes.

The doctor sat down in front of us.
