A young «mother» left her newborn home alone for three days because she was too busy enjoying her irresponsible lifestyle… But when she returned, the crib was silent.

Then again.

The phone slipped from her hand.

For the first time in three days, she did not imagine herself trapped.

She imagined her son.

The yellow onesie.

The missing sock.

The tiny fingers near his cheek.

The crib in that silent room.

She drove home without saying anything to anyone. The entire way, she kept whispering that he was sleeping, that everything would be fine, that Mrs. Linda was overreacting, that babies were stronger than people thought.

But the closer she got to the building, the less she believed herself.

When Maya arrived, Mrs. Linda was waiting for her in the hallway. The elderly woman was still wearing her slippers, her face pale, one hand pressed against the wall as if she needed it to keep herself standing.

“Maya,” she said, and her voice broke before she could finish.

Maya walked past her and fumbled with the keys.

The door opened.

The apartment was silent.

Too silent.

She walked toward the bedroom, and with every step, the lie she had carried with her for three days began to fall apart.

The bottle was still beside the crib.

Untouched.

The blanket had not moved.

And there was no sound coming from the crib.

Maya reached the doorway, looked down, and finally understood how much her freedom had cost her.

Her scream tore through the building so loudly that every neighbor on the floor opened their door.

PART 2

Mrs. Linda was the first to run inside.

She followed Maya’s scream down the hallway and stopped at the bedroom door.

One look at the crib was enough for the elderly woman to cover her mouth with both hands.

“No… oh, little one, no…”

Maya was on the floor, trembling, pointing at the crib as if she still expected someone to wake him up.

“I left the bottles,” she cried. “I left the milk beside him.”

Mrs. Linda slowly turned toward her.

Her eyes were filled with tears, but her voice was cold.

“Did you think bottles could raise a newborn?”
