Morning Event Takes a Devastating Turn
The 5K was held at Everglades High School in Miramar, where JROTC students had gathered to complete a physical training exercise. The event began like many similar school activities, with students preparing to challenge themselves through endurance and exercise.
As participants made their way through the course, the atmosphere changed dramatically when Knox experienced a medical emergency. Witnesses saw the teenager collapse during the run, prompting an immediate call for emergency assistance.
Authorities said emergency dispatchers received the call shortly before 9:00 a.m. First responders quickly arrived at the school’s athletic facilities and immediately began life-saving measures.
Medical personnel worked to stabilize Knox before transporting him under emergency conditions to Memorial Miramar Hospital.
Doctors and hospital staff continued efforts to revive the teenager after his arrival, but despite their attempts, Knox was pronounced dead a short time later.

Principal Jimmy Arrojo shared the heartbreaking news with the school community, expressing sympathy for everyone affected by the loss.
“One of our JROTC students passed away this morning after being transported to the hospital,” Arrojo said.
He continued by offering condolences to Knox’s family, friends, classmates, and teachers as they faced the difficult days ahead.
The announcement marked the beginning of a period of mourning throughout the school, where students who had recently shared classrooms and activities with Knox were forced to confront the sudden absence of a fellow student.
