A Family Vacation Turns to Tragedy
Bryce Brooks was visiting Pensacola, Florida, with his family when the tragic incident unfolded on April 6, 2023. The area where the family was enjoying their time had no lifeguards on duty, though yellow flags had been posted to warn beachgoers of moderate rip currents in the area. Despite the warnings, a group of younger children found themselves in serious trouble when the currents began pulling them away from the shore.
According to his father, Shivy Brooks, Bryce and two of his friends witnessed the children being pulled by the current and immediately sprang into action. The three young people did not know the children personally, but that did not stop them from responding to the emergency. Bryce, described by his father as a selfless and caring individual, put the safety of the children ahead of his own without giving it a second thought.
