Something strange happened at the beach today.
I was there with my children, enjoying what had started as an ordinary family day by the sea. The weather was pleasant, the children were playing nearby, and there was nothing about the beach that initially seemed unusual.
Then, almost without warning, everything changed.
The lifeguards began moving toward the water.
One after another, they came down from their stations and approached the shoreline. Their body language immediately caught my attention. They weren’t behaving casually. They were watching the water carefully, communicating with one another, and speaking to people who were still standing near the surf.
Then they raised a purple flag.
At the same time, they began asking beachgoers to stay away from the water.
That was when I became nervous.
