In these films, I also see the hope we still have and our belief that we can leave this world better for our children, and for humanity as a whole because these films aren’t just stories. They’re reflections of who we are. And when I hold them up against the state of the world today, I can’t help but feel that Gen X still has a role play. But sadly, it doesn’t feel like the films coming out today are talking to us, and I think the biggest mistake that Hollywood can make is to forget how to tell stories for large segments of the population.
Other Generations
I know I just gave this huge list of GenX films, but the truth is that these films are universal. They are stories that people to multiple generations and guide generations who came before us and after us. However, so many films today feel like they are being forced to target specific demographics rather than focusing on telling the best possible story with the best possible characters they can create. That’s the key to storytelling and the key to Hollywood success, and somehow it feels like this has been forgotten.
What About You?
So, tell me, whatever generation you are, how do these films resonate with you? What do they say about who we are? What do they say about what’s next?
