Not Jenna.
At the
dining table, Daniel opened his laptop.
I told him everything I had found.
The hotel.
The jewelry.
The apartment searches.
His expression became darker with each detail.
“He’s leaving you.”
“Maybe.”
“For her.”
“Maybe.”
Daniel stared at the wall.
“Does she know?”
“Know what?”
“That Dad doesn’t have the money she thinks he has.”
I frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Daniel looked at me.
“Dad’s company isn’t doing well.”
“What?”
“He told me six months ago.”
“Mark never said anything.”
“He made me promise not to worry you.”
Of course he did.
“How bad?”
“I don’t know. He said they lost two major clients.”
I sat back.
The situation shifted again.
“What else did he tell you?”
“Nothing.”
“Think.”
Daniel rubbed his face.
“He asked me once if Jenna cared much about money.”
My stomach tightened.
“When?”
“Before the wedding.”
