“Sweetheart, my youngest child is already fifty-six years old!”
But the doctor didn’t laugh.

The three of them stared at the screen for several minutes.
Finally, one of them spoke in a very serious voice.
“We need to perform additional tests. What we’re seeing is extremely unusual.”
Two hours later, the doctor invited me into her office.
She sat across from me, placed her hands on the desk, and said:
“Mrs. Margaret, first, I need you to stay calm. Your test results have revealed something that requires further confirmation. You’re showing signs that could be consistent with pregnancy, and we need to understand how that’s possible.”
I stared at her.
“That’s impossible! Women my age don’t get pregnant!”
“Not naturally, no. And that’s exactly why we need to investigate this very carefully.
